Los Angeles Class Commemorative 62 Coin Set

This set consists of the sixty-two 1.5-inch hand-painted brass coins that made up the Los Angeles Class, commonly known as the 688 Class (pronounced "Six-Eighty-Eight") after the USS Los Angeles SSN 688, the lead boat in the class.

Submarines of this class are named after American towns and cities, such as Albany, New York; Los Angeles, California; and Tucson, Arizona, except for USS Hyman G. Rickover, named after a US Navy Admiral. This was a change from traditionally naming attack submarines after marine animals, such as USS Lionfish or USS Thresher.
