Submarine Machinist's Mate "A-Ganger" Challenge Coin

After years of requests, we’re excited to finally bring you the long-awaited A-Ganger two-sided pewter coin. Measuring approximately 3" x 1.5", it’s the perfect tribute to some of the hardest-working—and most colorful—crew members aboard the boat.

So what exactly is an A-Ganger? According to All The Wacky Submarine Terms You Never Knew You Wanted To Know, an A-Ganger is a conventional Machinist’s Mate who handles non-nuclear systems—think scrubbers, burners, and the diesel engine—usually located throughout the forward part of the ship.

Known as knuckle-draggers and tough guys, A-Gangers are, by tradition and reputation, the most profane individuals on a submarine. They take cursing to levels undreamed of by sonar techs, storekeepers, yeomen, or pretty much anyone else unfortunate enough to be within earshot.
